Five Different Ways To Use Your Face Mask Stash (And Get The Most Out Of The Routine)

There's something universally appealing about a great face mask. It may be the ten minutes of pure self-indulgence it commands, or the perky radiant finish it leaves behind, but you can never have too many tubes or pots of the good stuff. Although smoothing a rich formula over the surface of skin and leaving it for ten minutes is the process we all know and love, when used in a different way the benefits can increase and you can be assured to get the most out of that beloved formula. Here are the five different ways I use a face mask, and why these new methods could provide your skin with an unexpected little boost...

1. MULTI-STEP
Sometimes I really want my face mask to provide serious results (removing impurities, clarifying or exfoliating the skin when it needs a good work out,) but it leaves the surface feeling a little tight and dry. The solution for me is to finish my pampering session with a great hydrating masque or sheet treatment, ensuring my skin is left looking and feeling awesome. Yes, it requires a bit more effort - but when I'm in the bath with all the time in the world it's a great way to ensure I get the results I need.

2. LAYERED MIXING
If you don't have time to apply one face mask over the other, why not mix them together to get the hit of goodness from both simultaneously? Like adding a face oil into a moisturiser, squirt a touch of hydration into your clay masque so it doesn't leave you feeling like your face is going to crack. If you don't have a hydrating product, why not opt for a touch of your usual moisturiser or oil instead?

3. TARGETED APPLICATION
Our complexions aren't universal in tone or need; our t-zone may be often oily, cheeks can be dry, while foreheads may a tendency to breakout.  One mask won't be able to fulfill all those needs, while applying the same formula all over may actually be detrimental to certain areas - there's nothing worse than covering dry skin in a product that will only draw out goodness and make it worse. Applying two, three or even four different formulas to your face directly where you need them will offer the benefit you require while not doing any further damage.

4. OVERNIGHT TREATMENT
Some lightweight creamy textures also make a fabulous overnight treatment, so why not apply before bed and let them soak in before you slip between the sheets? Hydrating and radiance boosting formulas are the best here, leaving your skin feeling baby soft the morning after. Have a little play around with the products within your repertoire and see what could work for you - just don't apply anything that's going to leave your skin parched or your pillow looking like it's been in a mud fight!

5. BODY CARE
Face masks are intense treatments by their very nature. Other areas of your body may need the same care an attention as your complexion, so using a mask to treat dry hands or a spotty back is a great way to get the most from them. Applying with a brush will ensure precision and reduce wastage, but don't hold back on the possibilities. After all, the ingredients don't discriminate between cheeks or chaps!

Have you ever tried using your face masks in different ways? Will you be trying any of these ideas out yourself?
