Finally, There's A High Street Version: NEW L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation

Fortunately, the Korean beauty inspiration that seems to be sweeping the Western World doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon - but I actually look forward to a day where brands take inspiration from other parts of the globe, just so I have something new to write about! Cushion foundations aren't exactly new to UK shores, but until now they've only really been available via premium brands or if you went to the added effort of importing one from overseas. Unlike their BB and CC counterparts, which aim to provide multiple benefits in one creamy formula, cushion foundations are all about the application method; the formula itself isn't necessarily revolutionary, but it's the way in which you apply it (and the result you achieve) that's really rather special. It's taken 18 months for L'Oreal to embrace the trend and take inspiration from their big sister Lancome (who launched their own version at the beginning of 2015,) but my oh my it was worth the wait.

If you've not tried one for yourself before, then these compact-like bases are applied using a foam pad that you tap against the foam cushion within the compact case; the more you tap the more product you release onto the foam applicator, which is then used to apply product in short strokes and buffing movements. The compact has been designed to provide an even amount of product and always saturate the cushion to ensure it's easy to apply, while the foam applicator ensures even and comfortable coverage without soaking up all the product or getting in a mess. The foundation itself is incredibly light, but yet incredibly buildable, meaning it's super easy to create the bespoke finish you want - whether that's a light and radiant dusting on a warm summer's day, or a heavier finish that helps to even out imperfections and create a warm glow.

Although I usually like a heavier finish, this is perfect for those days when you just want to chuck on some makeup and be on your way. The formula isn't incredibly covering, nor does it counteract discolouration or pigmentation issues, but what it does do it create a comfortable and light-reflecting base that means you look like you - only better. A touch of concealer and a light dusting of blush is all I would add on a day when I'm working from home, popping out for coffee or chilling out at the weekend. Having tried (and really liked) the Lancome original, but being unconvinced at the amount of product you get for the (£30.00) price, it's fab to see a much more affordable version that's practically identical in every way. (Honestly, I can't find much between them at all!) I can see cushion foundations becoming as mainstream as BB and CC creams in the coming months - but this is a great first step on the metaphorical ladder.

Would you give cushion foundations a go? Did you try the Lancome orginal?

The L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation is available in seven shades, priced £14.99 each. Right now you can also get £5.00 off in Boots, making this a total bargain.

  1. I have used cushion foundations, but only Korean ones. I don't see the point in Western imitations when the originals aren't that hard to get hold of and often come in fun limited edition packaging. This one does sound good though, I'd like to try it out.

Another cushion product I really like is the DIY cushion case by Missha, which you can fill with any BB cream you want to apply in a cushion format. That idea would probably do well in the UK.

Thanks for the review! I wanted to ask about tje colour range? Are they darker than expected or lighter? I'm an NC 20 so I'm not sure which colour to go for and 01 is too pink for my liking.

  5. I've heard great things about this foundation. Unfortunately, the shade range in Boots and Superdrug is not that extensive and the the 06, beige is too late for my skin. :-( The shades in your images show their are more colours, I guess will have to wait till these are available, so will miss out on the £5 off. Great article, by the way!

  7. I think your favourite adverb is 'incredibly', it appears here 3 times, and at least once a post! I haven't tried cushion foundations, I hear the colour range is quite limited which is no good as I'm quite pale 😞.

  9. I love L'Oreal for their wide shade range and I'm usually able to find my perfect match, unlike other brands (Revlon, Bourjois). They're available, but not in Kuwait for some reason. I need to try this! Thanks!

I've heard some people say that the foundation gets used up quite quickly than other foundations though. Are they just more than usual?

  11. I don't think cushion foundations are for me, they are so light in coverage and I am all about the matte finish. I do think they are adorable though, so maybe when my skin is feeling dry I will give this a go. Great post! Xxx

  13. I brought it and like it but not sold on the pad provided to apply it with. And for some reason it doesn't sit on my nose well (never had a problem before!)
Great for just dashing on some foundation though when you don't want to do make up.

  14. I am so glad to see this in the UK! Finally!i couldn't justify the Lancôme dolla for what may be something I didn't use much, but for this price I'm keen to give it a try!!

  16. This looks great - I'm useless with foundation, and to be honest don't like to have too much on, so this sounds perfect for me. I'll have a peek at it in Boots. Although sounds like I might have to order online because I'm very pale skinned, and all the comments above seem to imply there are limited shades instore....

  17. Wow such a great post! Finally L'oreal are following the trend. Still think they are years behind the likes of Hera, IOPE, Laneige or even Innisfree and any of the other great brands. Baifumei, Korean Skin care is Here http://www.baifumei.co.uk/

  19. I responded to a email from L'Oreal offering the first 300 people to respond one to try and I did receive one. I didn't think it would be the sort of thing I would like but I was surprised to love to it actually x
