ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BLOGGING (BUT MAY BE AFRAID TO ASK)

The media may like to make out that running a blog is akin to applying a new lipstick and expecting a million people to flock to tell you it's fabulous, but it's a little bit trickier than that. I established London Beauty Queen in 2010, and boy have things changed since that day. Back then we all just faffed around on the internet, bodged together a review of a new eyeshadow and took photos in such bad lighting you could barely see what we were talking about. Five years later and the blogging world is full of stars that are practically professional authors, stylists and photographers. It's harder than ever to stand out, carve a niche and ensure you're being the best you can be - so I've pulled together ten blog posts that will help you on your way. If you're a new blogger you may find these give you a kick in the right direction, or if you're established they may just give you the little boost you've been looking for. But either way, I hope they're helpful.

1. HOW TO START A BEAUTY BLOG
From thinking of your unique selling point and stand out name, to understanding why you're writing and what you want to achieve, I outline everything you need to think of before starting a blog - including making connections with other bloggers and filling your site with content.

2. HOW TO GROW YOUR AUDIENCE
The question I'm always asked, this post outlines how you can populate your blog and social channels with great content and ensure as many people as possible see it. Because what's the point if you're only talking to your mum and a random dude from Texas?

3. HOW TO MANAGE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA
In a digital world that means we're more connected than ever, the key to running your social media effectively is understanding where you need to be and why. Delve into my tips for choosing your platforms wisely, utilising scheduling and forging connections.

4. HOW TO WORK WITH BRANDS
Still one of my most popular posts, working with brands is the dream of many bloggers just starting out. In this post I cover everything from making yourself stand out, to creating collaborative content ideas that brands won't be able to say no to. I also discuss understanding you're own value and when to say no.

5. HOW TO WRITE AN AWESOME BLOG POST
A great design and pretty pictures will never be enough; the key to success is producing engaging content that people genuinely want to come back for. Read my tips on how to write the best blog post possible, ensuring your content is shareable too.

6. HOW TO GENERATE CONTENT IDEAS
We all have a mind blank and period of time when the content just doesn't flow from out fingertips - that's perfectly normal. I've outlined a few ways to start those creative juices flowing, that I know really help me on a regular basis. Open your eyes, read aloud and talk to people.

7. HOW TO TAKE AMAZING BLOG PHOTOS
Pretty self-explanatory, but still worth a read. Photography is more important than it's ever been, with the focus being on creating an aspirational and inviting place that readers want to return to. Read all my tips here and let me know if they help!

8. HOW TO KEEP SUPER ORGANISED
If you're not organised, running a blog alongside a full time job can become an absolute nightmare. Make the most of the limited time you do have to ensure your site is fresh, your social channels are populated and you still have time to watch Made In Chelsea.

9. HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF SEO
One of the most important posts I've ever written, SEO (or Search Engine Optimisation) is vital for any blogger - new or old. Those search engines can bring huge amounts of traffic to your site... If you know how to use them. You don't need a degree in digital marketing to make it work for you.

10. WHAT I WISH I KNEW WHEN I STARTED BLOGGING
An honest account of my journey so far, and what I wish someone had told me when I started out. Lucky for you, I'm here to offer up my experiences so you can learn from them!

I hope these posts help you on your blogging journey. There's a tonne of other pieces I've written about the blogging world and my top tips for success - just click the 'Blog Advice' button at the top of the page. 1. This is such a great post, thank you. It is definitely more difficult now with so many blogs out there, it's so hard to know, let alone find, which blogs will provide the information and entertainment that's right for you so I think many people head to the more established names knowing they can trust them. I love your posts about blogging, they're always so useful. :)
