Product Of The Week: Helmies Nail Helmets, Designed To Protect Your Manicure

How often do you apply your current favourite shade of polish, spend an age perfecting the finish so it looks just right, and then smudge it all by texting on your phone/playing with your hair/attempting to drink a cup of tea? For me it's pretty much every time; I have a specific skill set which involves messing up 90% of manicures within a five minute period. If this sounds a little too familiar, then this odd-but-genius brand could be just what the doctor ordered. Helmies are soft and lightweight helmets that fit over each of your manicured nails when they're touch dry, helping to prevent bumps, chips and smudges while allowing you to get on with your day.

The silicone texture slips over each individual nail to protect polish, while the matte texture and slightly powdered finish helps varnish to dry without smudging. In addition, the open back design ensures you still have sensory touch whilst wearing them, meaning you can still use your smartphone and laptop - or pop on your ipod and listen to some tunes! It's such a simple idea that I don't understand how someone hasn't thought of it before; the design is patent pending in the UK, meaning this is the only place you can get your hands on a piece of beauty genius.

Each pack includes three different sized Helmies in two different colours, designed to fit every size from your pinky to your big toe. Although some of the sizes are too big for my little fingers and have a tendency to ping off if I'm not too careful, if you sit still and don't try and do too much they definitely help keep your manicure looking fab. I'd love if these came in different size options to ensure every customer gets the perfect fit, but for a first launch these are simply brilliant. They're a £7.99 answer to your manicure nightmares.

Would you be tempted to invest in some Helmies? Or do you think it's a crazy concept that won't take off?

The Helmies manicure pack is available online, priced £7.99.

  1. These are genius! I always paint my nails whilst blogging and I'm always terrified to ruin them. This would solve that problem :)

    1. 20 minutes is still a long time! And they're not intended for social gatherings ; ) Although the postman may get a peek...

  4. I think they're s good idea but I don't think I'd actually use them. I'm horrible at painting my nails but would probably do better with a quick drying top coat. These seem like they'd be too easy to lose.

  6. These are fantastic! I can never keep my nails looking perfect after painting them, no matter how long I let them dry for or what kind of top coat I use! It's like a curse! I might have to look more into these!

  9. I have to say that this is possibly the silliest idea ever! You would chip your nails putting them on surely, and how would they stop a bump, if you bump your finger surely it will just press into the varnish?? confused.com

  11. These sound interesting to use although I would think that they would smudge the nail varnish if it wasn't fully dry yet. I really hope they do work because I also have the talent of smudging my nails straight after painting them

  12. I don't really get it either... how is wearing something on your fingernails is supposed to prevent the nail polish from smudging?
