L'Oreal False Lash Superstar Mascara: When Makeup Trends Go Full Circle

You may or may not be old enough to remember a mascara trend from around ten years ago that was somewhat groundbreaking. Double-ended mascaras were the height of elegance and the best technology the beauty industry could offer, thanks to the trend set about by Bourjois and their Coup de Theatre mascara. It was copied by everyone, especially L'Oreal who managed to create a variant that saw me through my younger years with ease. As we all moved on and the efficacy of mascaras improved, we no longer needed to coat the lash with white stuff before applying the lengthening top coat - so the mascaras were discontinued and we forgot all about this previous must-have that featured in every makeup bag for years. Until now. L'Oreal are bringing sexy (lashes) back with the launch of their False Lash Superstar Mascara - a complete re-imagining of the products of yesteryear but for a whole new audience.

Pimped out as an innovation and new technology, this is actually a clever marketing move to make something that already exists seem like new. They do it in the fashion world all the time, so why can't the beauty shelves have a bit of the action and start showing some retro love? All jokes aside, this is actually a great little mascara that helps to create more length and definition than a mascara alone. The white end coats lashes and primes them to ensure every lash is caught, while helping to add a touch of additional length, while the black end covers lashes and builds a pretty impressive lash line. As soon as I used this I felt a huge wave of nostalgia and love for the beauty days of past, remembering the amount of time I used to take perfecting the double-layer look. Although it does start to clump a little if you use too much, the False Lash Superstar Mascara does help to create a fab lashline for day or night while lifting lashes and adding definition. If you're in the market for a new mascara, why not channel 2005 and go double-ended?

Can you remember the double-wand trend? Will you be picking one of these up from store?

The L'Oreal False Lash Superstar Mascara is available now priced £10.99.

  2. I have just picked up this one at the weekend and haven't had chance to use it yet but I don't really remember the double end mascara's but I guess it is a good way to make money without have to think too much about it, also introduces it to the people that didn't know too :)

  3. I used to LOVE the double end mascara! I think it was maybelline? I remember when it came out, and everyone raved about it. I will definitely be checking out this re-launched one, as I used to adore the first one! Although, I will improve my technique, so that my lashes aren't patchy white& black! haha!

  4. I have never used a L’oreal mascara and I’m not generally a fan of double ended mascara. But this does sound good!

  5. This kind of looks like every other double ended mascara that L'Oreal has ever brought out...but hey, I love them anyway! I think mum's been using one of their double ended ones for the past 10 years- she swears by them, haha! x

  6. I think the Bourjois version was actually the first mascara I ever owned! I though it was amazing until I got my first job and treated myself to Benefit's Badgal Lash, then unfortunately for my bank balance I slowly became hooked on high end beauty products. Your lashes do look amazing though, I might be tempted to try this version too.

  7. I definitely do remember the original double-ended mascaras, in fact I think the Bourjois one was one of my first mascaras back when I was 14 - I remember my 'then' best friend showing me how to use it........ and now I feel very old!
