1. Eucerin AtoControl Body Care Lotion (£16.00)
The whole Eucerin range has been a godsend over the last few months, helping to replenish skin and soothe irritation without stinging. The combination of highly concentrated Omega fatty acids (Evening Primrose Oil and Grape Seed Oil) and soothing Licorice Extract replenishes the skin, helping to restore its natural barrier and make it more resilient in the long-term. I'd thoroughly recommend any Eucerin products to those suffering from any form of dry skin, especially thanks to the inclusion of Urea in the majority of products (which promotes hydration in the skin.)
2. E45 Intense Recovery Lotion (£4.50)
This body lotion not only replenishes moisture, but locks it in to help keep skin better protected against moisture loss. Its soothing formula is fragrance free and hypoallergenic, with a light and non-greasy texture that absorbs quickly to protect and restore the skin. It's an affordable buy that can be applied liberarlly mutliple times a day to soothe skin when it's crying out for moisture.
3. Avene Replenishing Cream (£16.50)
This cream not only helps to reduce itching by up to 97%, but the bottle is completely sterile - product is squeezed out of an innovative top that ensures no air comes into contact with the product inside. This removes any potential irritants, ensuring only a soothing sensation when it's applied. They have loads of great products in their range that are perfect for eczema sufferers, including bath and shower products that ensure everyone can enjoy a long soak without feeling like their skin is going to fall off.
4. Simple Derma Intensive Relief Lotion (£3.99)
The Simple 'Derma' products were the first we tried when embarking on this eczema journey, but they're now incredibly difficult to get hold of. They contain no nasties or irritants, absorb quickly, help to relieve itching and uncomfortability and are affordable. We used to stockpile these in their dozens, because at Josh's worst these would still provide a helping hand.
5. Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion (£8.99)
Clinically proven to help soothe and repair compromised skin, this has been developed specifically for those with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. It's not Josh's favourite, but it does help to soothe skin when used over a period of time. Although this can sting a little if used on cracked skin, the clinical results speak for themselves; this stuff works.
6. Pure Potions Skin Salvation Moisturising Ointment (£9.35)
The benefits of this thick balm are two fold: it's rich, deeply moisturising and restorative, plus it forms a semi-occlusive barrier which protects the skin from external irritants. Although it's too thick to be applied on large areas, it's great for targeting small extremely dry or irritated patches - simply massage it into the skin for relief and protection when eczema is playing up.
7. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream: Fragrance Free (£18.00)
This may seem a bit of a random one, but this is one of Josh's favourite products - so much so that it's been nicknamed 'magic potion'. He uses it on his lips to relieve sore and chapped skin, as well as around his mouth where he often gets dry and broken skin. The ointment is extremely malliable, providing comfort and relief for so many areas of the skin; this is a one-stop shop for all kinds of skin issues, and because it's fragrance free there's no irritation.
8. Healgel Body (£39.50)
Although this is eye-wateringly expensive, it does really work. Boasting restorative qualities, HealGel Body can be applied to any area of the skin and works to nurture and repair irritated skin, leaving it feeling refreshed, soft and supple. It does leave a tacky residue on the skin, so it's best used in the evenings as a body treatment rather than in the morning after a shower. Due to the price point I'd also suggest using this sparingly and not layering it over every limb!
Do you have any products that you can't live without? Have you tried any of these before? I'd love to hear your thoughts and any tips on dealing with skin conditions.
