BooTea Cleansing Detox Teas: Are They Really Worth The Hype?

I've made no secret of the fact that I suffer with all kinds of allergies and digestive problems, like millions of other people in the UK. I suffer from cows milk and gluten intolerances (read about why I made the switch to soya here,) as well as IBS and an under-active liver. Basically, my eating habits could be the best on earth and I'd still struggle with my digestive system. I discovered BooTea during one of my cleansing phases, where I'd consume anything and everything that claimed to cleanse and detox my body. The premise is simple: a daytime tea in the morning before breakfast and a nighttime tea before bed. I love the fact that it's so simple, easy to integrate into your existing routine and there's no faffing around - all you have to do is boil the kettle. I started off with a 28 day teatox, drinking the morning and evening teas consistently for a couple of weeks, and noticed a real difference. The teas seemed to help my body get rid of all the unnecessary toxins, build-up and gas to leave me feeling much lighter and my tummy a lot less temperamental. However, after around two weeks I found my body stagnating and not really benefiting from the teas as much as it was initially; the result was that I gradually stopped drinking the teas daily.

Although I felt great for a couple of weeks, like with any cleanse or detox the result tends to reach a brick wall where no further good can be done without drastic action. I dipped in and out of the tea drinking programme, but as I did I noticed that the days where I was drinking a nighttime tea I felt like my digestive problems and intolerances were causing me a lot less jip. To put it in perspective, I nicknamed the BooTea bedtime tea 'poop tea' because it has a gentle laxative like effect; if you drink a cup before bed, your bowel will kick-start the next morning and remove everything it needs to get rid of - brilliant if, like me, you have a tendency to suffer from an inflamed stomach and blocked intestines. (FYI it contains Senna leaves, Peppermint leaves, Fenugreek seeds, Liquorice root, Burdock root, Hawthorn leaves, Valerian root, Psyllium seeds.) To put your mind at rest, your bottom won't explode like something from The Inbetweeners the morning after drinking a cup of BooTea, but it will be much easier to go to the loo and ensures you feel a lot more comfortable.

The BooTea system is marketed as a weight loss aid, but in my opinion it's much better as a way to cleanse your system and to help it perform effectively. If your body holds on to unnecessary food and toxins then there will only ever be negative effects; digestive problems have been linked to acne and skin conditions, with colonic irrigation having been proved to work on every ailment imaginable. If you're not quite up to having regular sessions of colonics (read my experience here!) then BooTea may be a much gentler, affordable and realistic alternative. I love the nighttime teas so much that I've just bought another two huge packs, drinking them every two or three days to kick start my body into working like it should. They taste pretty good (if you like herbal teas and peppermint then you'll love them,) are easy to get on board with and really do work - if you use them wisely and don't overdo it. You can grab a 14 day pack of BooTea from only £10.99 too, so it's not even expensive. With my exclusive discount code (MYFRIEND20) you can also get 20% off your first order - so there's no reason why not to give it a whirl!

Have you tried the BooTea teatox? Would you give it a go?

    1. Yes I did, but I think it's mainly because your body isn't holding on to everything.

  3. I'm not keen on the sound of the laxative effect. I've recently done the Tiny Teatox from Your Tea which I really enjoyed, it's based on Chinese herbal medicine and doesn't act as a laxative, but I still felt much better afterwards. I'll be reviewing it soon on my blog.

  5. I really think that these tea cleanses are very subjective. I did it and the night time tea made me feel very sickly, i do like the day time tea however but for the price I'll just stick to my green tea. My mother suffers from IBS so I might pass the box on to her thanks for the review!

  6. I love drinking tea and this detox program sounds wonderful and easy to follow too! I doubt BooTea is available in my country but I will definitely keep an eye out for pre-packaged tea detox programs like this now that I know it works.

I tried the bootea twice, once for fourteen days and lost ten pounds and once for twenty eight days and lost sixteen pounds. However I followed there advice and my own diet plan and had no meat, no alcohol and no processed sugar. I consumed between 1300-1500 calories a day. For me the tea is a great way to stay on track and for that extra weightloss boost when I've maintained.

I suffer with IBS, cramps and bloating and this sounds like it might help I'm just worried about going to work after drinking a cup lol.

    1. It just helped the whole system have a little flush out - but it doesn't stay for the whole day! It won't leave you on the loo til 3pm :)

Hi, I took a 14-day course of Bootea which worked wonders, however as soon as the course finished my skin broke out into severe acne on one side of my face and my hair became very oily ( I am 25 yr old who suffers from break outs however this has been by far my worst breakout in years). I was wondering if anyone experienced the same reaction.
