With eyeshadow and blusher palettes setting you back only £3.49, lipglosses £2.29, nail varnishes £1.99 and lipbalms from as little as £1.29, Essence really brings back the impulse purchase mentality that used to be so popular when I was a teen... I didn't want to spend a fortune on a high quality product; I wanted to spend my pocket money on a new nail varnish, eyeshadow or lipgloss that made me feel like I'd just bought a whole new outfit. Although cheap price points often mean horrendous quality, Essence somehow manage to balance both elements and have provided some surprising results. Not only are the eyeshadows pigmented, the lipglosses super shiny and the nail varnishes easy to apply, but they don't feel or smell cheap at all. The quality is so surprising for the price, I had to double check I was reading it right.
Although a lot of the products and designs are extremely young and definitely aimed at the teenage market, there's definitely something within the Essence portfolio for everyone. My particualr favourites include the ombre 'Blush Up' blushers that provide a three-dimensional colour result that makes wearing bright colours easy, as well as the 'All About Eyeshadow' pallettes which offer six wearable and incredibly soft shades that blend perfectly into the eye. One category stands out above and beyond all the rest though, and that's definitely the incredible nail offering Essence have created. Not only are there over one hundred different shades and textures of polish to choose from, but Essence have great nail art tools and accessories. You grab magnetic polish with the magnet design of your choice, mini emery boards, white tip guides, cuticle creams and newspaper nail art tools... They even offer an at-home gel manicure kit that works with any polish within their range for only £19.99!
I'll be spending more time in the coming weeks getting to know the products and putting them to the test, looking at how they perform individually and against more expensive counterparts, but in the meantime it's definitely a brand you're going to want to get familiar with. Launching into Wilkinson stores nationwide this July, Essence will also be available from two stand-alone mini stores in Westfield London and Manchester's Arndale shopping centre. The great thing is you can spend a tenner and feel like you've blown a fortune, leaving you change for a new pair of shoes and even a cocktail to celebrate.
Will you be checking out this new affordable brand when it launches near you?
