The Best Beauty Smartphone Apps

We carry our phones with us wherever we go, spending endless moments catching up on gossip, planning our weekends and watching cats on YouTube. Although there are lots of functional apps that make managing our lives and finances easier, I like to add a touch of beauty to my life when I'm on the go. There are hundreds of beauty related apps available to download, but I've whittled them down to the five I love and think every beauty enthusiast should have in their pockets...

1. Wahanda

If you've ever realised you're in a desperate need of a pedicure and don't know where to look, this is an essential beauty companion. Best known for their discounts and offers available via their website, Wahanda have expanded and created this super handy app that allows you to book any treatment with only a moments notice (and even pay before you get there.) You can search by location or treatment, finding an affordable salon or spa near to where you're located; you can even book for only a few hours away, making that last minute blow dry as easy as picking up a coffee.

2. Hair Alert
How often do you look out the window and think 'do I chance leaving my hair down today?' If you suffer from frizzy and curly hair that expands as soon as there's a hint of moisture in the air, Hair Alert will help avoid those bad hair days altogether. Using your location and weather predictions, the app specifies the conditions you can expect and the impact they'll have on your 'do - naming it either a good or bad hair day. It even provides styling tips and advice!

3. Think Dirty
If you're concerned about the ingredients in products and the potential harm they can cause your skin, then Think Dirty makes understanding all that and more super easy. You can either scan a product barcode or manually search their database, the results showing the ingredients on a scale of 'clean to dirty'. It's easy to identify the products that could cause you problems, feature carcinogens or have potential to cause an allergic reaction. The app even provides you with 'cleaner alternatives' from other brands, which minimise the need to put nasties on your skin.

4. Beauty Spotter
It's hard to know which salons and spas to trust when you're in a new area or big city. They may have fancy frontage, but how do you know if the blowdry or nail art you want is realistic and achievable? Beauty Spotter takes social sharing to a new level; users upload pictures of their finished manicures or haircuts, tagging in the salon and their location so other beauty enthusiasts can see the result. It makes parting with cash easier and the whole experience a little more enjoyable, when you know what the outcome is going to be.

5. World UV
Protecting ourselves from harmful UVA and UVB rays is as important to our skin as removing our makeup. Not only will they cause our skin to prematurely age, but they can play havoc with our cells and even lead to cancer. World UV (created by the British Association of Dermatologists in partnership with the Met Office,) provides helpful advice by finding the current UV levels of your location, providing an indication of how much protection is required and the skin types at risk. It contains clear and concise information on sun care, as well as a handy skintone guide so you can be sure to have the best advice possible.
