Although the pink-peach blush shade of varnish is very wearable and a little bit classic, it's the bright blue topcoat filled with sparkles that's worth looking at. This settles to leave a very silvery finish, meaning you have to shake the bottle before every use to ensure you only get a delicate hint of glitter; the blue tone becomes a tint when applied over a base coat as it's such a runny (almost water-like) texture. There's also a bright orange Colour Powder that can be used in a multitude of ways, including as an eyeshadow, liptint and a blush, as well a multi-tonal Face Powder that provides a touch of light to otherwise dull complexions. I love how Paul & Joe products are always so full of colour and can be used in multiple ways - the key is that they put the fun back into makeup and encourage you to experiment.
The bright red lipstick is almost too beautiful to use, featuring an intricate design on the side that you don't want to damage. As this applies the consistency is slightly gel-like, providing a strong pigment that also looks slightly transparent. It's great if you're a fab of colour, but a bright red is just not right for your daytime look. The only thing that frustrates me about Paul & Joe is the fact you have to buy the lipstick case and bullet separately, adding an additional £7.00 to a £14.00 lipstick. The cases are made of card and, although very pretty, are therefore incredibly impractical - especially as the bullet isn't exactly secure in the case once you put it all together. However, if you're a fan of beautiful makeup you just can't compare Paul & Joe to anything else... It'll just have to look beautiful on your dressing table and avoid being put in a handbag at all costs!
The Paul & Joe 'Secret Garden' collection is exclusive to ASOS. Prices start at £11.00.
