Real Techniques Makeup Brushes (From Pixiwoo's Samantha Chapman)

Since the launch of Real Techniques' collaboration with Sam Chapman (of Pixiwoo fame,) the internet has been awash with praise for the range. I'm slightly ashamed to admit until very recently I'd never actually tried them myself, relying on my existing expansive brush collection to make me over every morning. However, I was keen to put the brushes to the test myself and see if all the buzz surrounding them was really justified. If you're not familiar with Real Techniques, then the brushes have been created with the expertise of makeup artist and blogger Sam Chapman, to ensure they're practical yet provide professional quality. All the brushes are synthetic, ensuring the hair is smooth and easy to use, as well as being 100% cruelty free.

Each brush is hand-cut to the perfect shape, ensuring precise application and a pro-like finish, as well as being colour-coded to make it easy to understand which stage of makeup application the brush relates too. I love the fact that each brush features its name too; it's so easy to forget which brush is meant for what element of makeup application, especially if you're new to professional brushes. The handles are light and easy to grip, thanks to the addition of a little rubber base, and the bristles allow you to really manipulate your makeup to ensure a blended result.

Added to my makeup kit were the blush, setting and shading brushes, all three providing an essential function in any collection. The brushes are extremely fluffy and allow you to capture a light dusting of product so there's no chance of overloading the face, but they do take some getting used to. I love the blush brush as it doubles-up as a powder brush if you want to add a delicate touch just to set the makeup; the setting brush enables you to dust powder over concealer to set the under-eye area, as well as applying a delicate touch of highlighter to the cheekbones and around the eye bone.

However, my favourite is without doubt the shading brush. In my opinion, every woman needs one of these in their collection as it's the perfect tool for creating statement or subtle smokey eyes. If you struggle with blending or are scared of a dark shadow, this brush allows you to pick up a small amount and really work it into the eye socket. It brings the pigment of shadow to the surface and blends away strong edges, as well as setting colour in place to ensure it stays put when you need it to. It's difficult to find a really great brush that helps even the most novice of makeup artist to create a professional eye, but this is really it.

Considering these brushes are around £6.99 each, I'm absolutely converted. They look great, feel great, are practical and easy to use, plus ensure a professional finish every time. Every woman needs a few good brushes in her collection and Real Techniques could be a great introduction for everyone. Make sure you check out the full collection and make 2014 the year you finally perfect your makeup!

All three brushes are available online and in Boots stores priced £6.99
