NEW From L'Oreal Paris: Fibrology Thickening Solution

The beauty world is currently in a frenzy thanks to L'Oreal Paris' latest hair innovation. After years of research, L'Oreal have launched 'Fibrology' - a range that includes a shampoo, conditioner, masque, booster and treatment serum that contain ingredients that actually penetrate the hair to make it thicker. I saw this in a Stylist article and promptly bookmarked the launch date in my diary, excited to see if the products really could do what they claim. However, due to massive consumer demand the range is already available in most Boots stores and is being snapped up left, right and centre. Considering I'm lucky enough for most launches to end up on my doormat, for me to rush out and buy an entire range is quite something... But that's exactly what I did. The Fibrology range contains an ingredient called Filloxane, which penetrates deep into the hair fibre to create thickness by expanding. It remains there even after washing, for a long-lasting effect that continues to increase as you use the products daily.

It's, I'm sure, a lot more technical than that, but all you need to know is this stuff really works. The shampoo and conditioner come in giant bottles that provide enough product to last at least a couple of months, the shampoo lathering effectively to remove build-up and leave hair squeaky clean. The conditioner is silky and smooth, applying well to hair and leaving it feeling strong and nourished after a few minutes. Even after washing off the conditioner for the first time, before drying or styling, I could instantly feel that my hair was a little thicker. After drying and styling my hair I could visbly tell the difference: my head of hair looked much thicker and full of volume, providing me with around 30% more fullness in only one use.

The range also contains a serum and a thickness booster (which can be added to the conditioner or mask,) which further help the Filloxane to work. This serum may be my discovery of the year (and it's only January,) as the transparent formula mixes in your hand and applies to instantly boost individual hairs. It leaves hair feeling full and looks much more voluminous, with no sticky feeling or heaviness on the hair. Unlike most other volume shampoos, conditioners and styling products that target the root and help to lift the hair away from the scalp, L'Oreal's Fibrology really targets individual hairs for a more natural and long-lasting result. I couldn't be more chuffed.

What's unique about this range of products, is that they claim to continue working even when you stop using them. I'm not sure how long the Filloxane molecules would stay inside the hair shaft before being washed away, but it's great to know you can still maintain a thick head of hair even when you want to use a targeted conditioner or other styling products. This range is a complete innovation in the beauty world, really helping to answer a question and fulfill a need that's been void for so long. If you'd expect this to cost you a small fortune, then you'd be wrong - the shampoo and conditioner will only set you back £3.99 each, while the serum and mask are £5.99. Well done L'Oreal... This could be the best discovery I've ever made.

The L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology range is available now from Boots, priced from £3.99 to £5.99

  1. Thanks for this, I really want to try this product now, I have such fine hair and REALLY want thicker hair, I have learned to live with it but I am always on the hunt for new products claiming to add volume to hair. I think I will buy this then use it for a couple of months and do a review! :D

  6. I've seen this on the shelves in Boots, but didn't want to buy it before I'd read a review as it could have turned out to be rubbish. Really pleased you've written about it, I will definitely be picking it up on my next trip into Boots.

I bought this and was especially curious about the thickness booster. I don't have fine hair, but it's not thick either. I thought that if the ingredient penetrates the hair and stays there it'll do so even if you don't mix it with the conditioner. So, I used it on its own and I did not rinse it out. I did not notice any difference on my hair whatsoever. The product is supposed to stay in the hair even after rinsing, and it builds up the more you use it, that's the claim. If this product is supposed to work when you leave it on for 2 minutes and then rinse it out and it's supposed to remain in the hair, then it should work if you leave it on and don't rinse it out. It did not, however. Now, it's written in here and elsewhere that even on the 1st application you can see a difference, the hair is noticeably fuller. However, there was no difference in my hair on the 1st application, and I have normal hair, not thin and not too thick. I doubt this does what it claims to do.

    1. You're the first person out of 100s I've spoken to that has anything bad to say about the range. However, if you're only using the thickness booster I'm not suprised that you saw no results - the purpose of this is to activate the ingredients in the other products even more, so if you use it alone it won't do anything at all! Try mixing it with the conditioner or try the shampoo/conditioner combo instead.

If you left stuff on you hair you make them heavy and full of the product, how can you feel the difference. Like you prepare a cake and it's supposed to be tasty but you don't put it in the oven and you're shocked that's awful

  9. I am very interested in using this product, but I have reservations? Permanent Waves and Permanent Hair Colours rely on penetrating into the hair to be effective. Will the fibrology formular block the cuticle layer of the hair? if so.. That will mean the colour or perm lotion will not be able to take effect on the hair??

    1. Not at all. I have coloured hair and it's absolutely safe.

Have always had thin fine hair. Over the years have used many different 'miracle products' with no result. Having used the fibrology shampoo, conditioner and finisher since it came out, all I can say is Wow. Even my hairdresser has commented on the shine, condition and seemingly thicker hair. I have permed and coloured hair.

Curious to find out if anyone else is having the same issues as I am with this shampoo. Initially I was delighted - I have thin & fine shoulder length hair and for the first couple of weeks I noticed an improvement - it looked visibly thicker. Since then however the texture of my hair has become straw-like - without conditioner (which I previously used only rarely) I would struggle to get a comb through my hair after washing. When I blow dry I feel as if the brush is actually sticking / getting caught in my hair. So disappointed - stopped using the shampoo 10 days ago but hair is still coarse. Not happy : (

    1. It's the type of product unfortunately - the shampoo alone will only do so much, so you should use a conditioner with every wash for optimum results. I'd also suggest the mask or treatment to give your hair some love. Also, the focus is on plumping the hair rather than looking after it so you won't get away with only washing. Maybe give it a break and re-visit in a few weeks.

Will it work if I only use the shampoo and the Mask?

    3. You'll get some effect, but not the full amount.
