COMPETITION: Philips Lumea Precision Plus (IPL Hair Removal System)

As a woman we have to put up with a lot of body maintenance to keep us looking our best: manicures, pedicures, face masks, hair treatments... And worst of all, hair removal. If there was a way you could magically remove all your unwanted body hair, I'm pretty sure it would be snapped up without hesitation. Although it's not quite magic, Philips newest electronic device offers something almost as great; the Lumea Precision Plus IPL Hair Removal System works wonders to prevent the reappearance of hair on the face as well as the body via targeted gentle pulses of light.

The handheld device brings the benefit of inconvenient salon treatments to the comfort of your own home, allowing users to significantly reduce hair regrowth on the body and face. Philips have been working with leading dermatologists for over ten years to bring this product to life, ensuring that results are long-lasting and effective. IPL (or Intense Pulsed Light) has been used in the professional beauty market for over fifteen years; Philips have tested their at-home Lumea Precision Plus on over 2000 women and has seen significant hair reduction after only two treatments, making salon visits a thing of the past. The device works by heating up hair at the root, which absorbs the released light pulses and stimulates the hair to shed; the follicle remains at rest until the biological clock tells it to become active again and grow a new hair. As all our hairs are at different stages in their growth cycle, it's essential to repeat the treatment every two weeks for up to two months to ensure all hairs are shed effectively.

Unlike other clunky and large devices that have been seen on the market, the Philips Lumea Precision Plus is small and handy. It comes in a super cute and space-conscious (as well as inconspicuous) case and needs no excessive base unit or cords. Once charged, the handheld device can be used cordless to provide up to five months worth of treatments - it isn't heavy and it won't hurt your wrist after ten minutes of use! It's super easy to use too: all you have to do is check your skintone against the enclosed chart, turn on the device and adjust the settings to match your requirements. Once you're set, you hold the device at 90 degrees against your skin, wait for the indicative green light to flash on the reverse of the unit and click the button... That's it!

Considering this is quite a complex piece of equipment, the ease of use is astounding. Even my Mum could understand this and get to grips with the system in under five minutes (which is saying something.) The red light emitted isn't painful and most won't even feel a thing; depending on where you use the light (it's suitable for all over the body and face) it may feel like a tiny prick, but on the whole it's completely pain free and entirely comfortable. If you're using this to remove unwanted hair from large areas such as the legs, it will take a little longer to fully treat the area - it's suggested that each lower leg takes about 15 mins to complete, meaning you'll need 30-60 mins to treat the entirety of your leg surface area. However, if you wish to treat the underarms, bikini line or face then you're looking at only a few minutes.

Considering an eight treatment session of laser hair removal can cost over £2000 at a Harley Street Clinic, investing in an at-home device that can provide unlimited treatments on unlimited areas of the body seems like a wise choice. Although the Philips Lumea Precision Plus will set you back around £450.00, it will last up to five years before you even need to change a bulb: that's 25% of the cost of professional treatments, with the added benefit that you can continue to top-up when needed for the rest of the product's life.

This all sounds fine and dandy, but does it really work? Can this handy little gadget really help to remove unwanted hair and leave limbs feeling soft and smooth only after a few weeks? I want to put it to the test... With one of you! I have one of these devices worth £450.00 to give away to one of my readers. I want you to put it to the test over eight weeks and really let me know what you think. Your story will be shared on LBQ after the testing period, so we can all see the long-term benefits of the Philips Lumea Precision Plus. Up for the challenge? Enter via the widget below and lets get hair-free...

I had to have the lymph nodes removed under one arm - now I'm not allowed to shave that side because any nick or cut on the left side could set off a painful condition called lymphodema. I've been waxing, but frankly, it's messy and it hurts. Cream - you try sitting with your arm in the air for 15 minutes!

I'd love to try this because there's no risk of nicks and grazes as there is with shaving or epilating.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I had previously embarked on a course of Laser Hair Removal in the days pre-children when I had disposable income! Unfortunately I couldn't make enough appointments and had no benefit. I have stuck to waxing since then but suffer dreadfully from ingrowing hairs, which sometimes develop into sinuses, leading to scarring. Between the regrowth, the waxing rash and the pustules from the ingrowing hairs, I no longer feel happy to wear a swimming costume. If I had the opportunity to try the Lumea system it could leave me happy enough to take my children swimming. Or sunbathe in public! I could even contemplate a tropical holiday (not much fun in shorts all the time!). Pick me, pick me, pick me!

  120. I would sell me very soul to give this a try. Ive had pcos for a long time and my hormones are completely out of whack because of it. For years I've had to fight with my fave as I have Unwanted hair. The hair is very dark, thick and coarse and waxing doesn't really do a lot to help. On a daily basis I have to pull at my skin and follicles to remove the hair, it grows very quick. It's unsightly and effects my confidence and really has stopped me very doing a lot of social things. I don't mind the pain of plucking and waxing its how sore it makes me afterwards, and how red it makes me my follicles and skin often bleed after and its just really not nice. Is love to give this a go. Unfortunately I can't afford laser treatments and I know it's the only way forward.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Sick of shaving!

    ReplyDelete

Hair removal is so tedious! I hate shaving as you end up with stubble in a few hours and waxing isnt for me

    ReplyDelete
  125. I'm so up for the challenge! I was doing home electrolysis on my facial hair, and I'm not sure if it was showing results. After two months, the machine packed up, so I'm back to plucking.

I'm not sure who tells your body that you get older. I certainly never mentioned it, but my hair follicles seem to have caught on and are sprouting in all sorts of inappropriate places. I could live with slightly darker hairs on my upper lip, but the patches of dark hair on my chin drive me to distraction. I've also noticed that when I go into hibernation mode and stop shaving my legs for the winter, there seems to be more and thicker hair than there used to be.

I'm only just into my fifties, so please let me try the Lumea before I turn into a gorilla.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I would love to have smooth legs for the summer and not have to worry about wearing a skirt

    ReplyDelete
  127. Well firstly I would love to take part because after losing over 6 stone, I am now confident enough to show my flesh.

Secondly, shaving is a nightmare for me, I have tried waxing at home and even used a "no-no" but it still grows back thick and is terrible to maintain.

I would love to be able to use this "magical wand" a few times and keep my skin supple and soft, oh and be able to "bare it all"

  130. As a new mum I never seem to have time to visit the salon or have time to frequently shave - My poor husband has to share the bed with a tiny yeti! I could really use something like this to help me feel sexy and feminine again.

  131. My hubby gets terrible shaving rashes and this would be brilliant for him. It's his 40th in a few weeks and I would flipping love to be able to give this to him (and share it with him!) X

  132. It's not so much the hair on my legs and armpits that are the problem (I can live with that) it's the chin/face/neck area - I've got very pale skin, and very dark hairs and usually spend up to an hour a night with the tweezers to try and keep them under some sort of control as they seem to be getting worse and I am a little self-conscious of them. I'd love to try this as hopefully it will reduce the hair growth and give my skin a chance to recover (it can get quite red and sore-looking at times).

  133. I'd love to win because I'm sick on spending loads of money on razors and shaving gel and sick of the pain that waxing and epilating gives me. I'd love to try this, it sounds easy and simple to use and very quick!

  138. I would love a chance to try out the Phillips Lumea Precision Plus as I find shaving my legs such a chore! I've tried various other methods of home hair removal but not got on with them & usually end up going back to shaving. I've tried home waxing (& just made a sticky mess!), hair removal pads (like sand paper & just ended up with sore legs!) and hair removal creams. I did find one hair removal cream that I liked but after using it a few times I found I was starting to feel a bit unwell & was concerned I was starting to become allergic, so had to stop. :(
I can't afford to shell out for expensive treatments at a beauty salon and to be honest I prefer the convenience of being able to do it in the comfort of my own home so I would jump at the chance to give this a try! :)

    ReplyDelete
  139. I've been looking into buying one of these for a while now as I've heard that the Lumea is the best on the market. I really suffer from ingrown hairs, especially on my underarms, and would love to give it a go! And shaving is SO boring.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Would love to try this as it would be great not to have to shave - and to have the option to use on the face (really important with me approaching the likelihood of that happening!) Hate using creams - and have never managed one that really works well either (and they stink!)

  142. I'd love to be a part of the challenge because I am always trying to find the perfect hair removal method! I get grow back quite quickly, I hate shaving, I can't stand hair removal creams, the Easy Wax was the biggest pile of crap ever, my epilator broke and professional waxing is too expensive at the moment! This would be ideal!

My fingers are so tightly crossed it's ridiculous!

    ReplyDelete
  147. I have always wanted to try one of these my hair grows so fast, I have to either epilate or wax which is so much bother

    ReplyDelete
  148. I would love to try this as having brown skin and dark hair, any hair that I have is very noticeable on places that a lot of people don't have to bother with, eg, arms, back!
To be honest though, and I have no idea why I'm saying this, reading some other comments are making me feel guilty because people seem to have worse problems than mine!

  149. Years ago I treated myself to laser hair removal on my bikini line... and it really worked well! I would love to have one of my own to tackle my legs now.

I've only just started to save for treatment to remove my upper lip hair which really gets me down. Nothing I have tried so far stops it from growing back within a week or so. I would love to try this for you, as to have something which would actually keep the hair away would really increase my confidence.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I love to try this.I have pale skin but very thick dark hair and am so sick of either shaving every day or waxing. Even when I can afford to wax it only seems to last a week and it's back again.

  152. Shaving is becoming such a pain in my life, and apparently facial hair on woman is popular in our family, heaven forbid! I'd rather start young and be hair free forever!

  168. I would love to try this! I always have a nightmare with hair removal. Whenever I shave I am always left with a rash and badly itching skin, no matter what technique I use!

    ReplyDelete
  169. Because I'm 40 and I've spent over half my life fiddling about with razors, wax, hair removal cream etc etc. This sounds like a great alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Because I just can't do waxing ;s

    ReplyDelete
  171. I would really love this...I'm getting married abroad later this year which means lots of time in a bikini. My hair seems to grow really quickly and trying this out would mean I don't have to worry about being a yeti on the beach!

    ReplyDelete
  172. I have really dark hair and it's quite thick. I spend a fortune on waxing and It takes me ages when I epilate so this would be a godsend!

    ReplyDelete
  173. I hate shaving, I always manage to cut myself and am intrigued to see if this works

    ReplyDelete
  174. I've always wanted to try IPL, there's nothing I can use on my face except for threading (OWW) because my skin's too sensitive, waxing/creams break me out horrifically. It wasn't a problem until I started sprouting side-burns (no, really; if I win I'm totally willing to post pics of the ol' mutton chops) due to hormonal problems. So, if it works on me it'll be a really good product!

    ReplyDelete
  175. I have read all the great reviews on this product and it's one I really want to try - definitely the way forward for removing unwanted hair! Good bye razor :)

    ReplyDelete

  182. I am medium-toned and (although I don't really want to admit this), my 'tache gives me trouble. I use bleach and/or epilation on it but I don't think either of them are as effective as they used to be! The bleach can be quite uncomfortable and epilation, well ... If I'm honest, the chance to be part of this challenge would be a dream!

    ReplyDelete
  183. With 2 teenage girls I spend a fortune on shavers, creams etc so would love to try this!

  184. What an amazing prize! As I have PCOS I am sadly quite a hairy site to be seen...(I know - ew). This would be an amazing prize to win as I spend so much time shaving, waving and plucking which seems to be never ending!

    ReplyDelete
  185. i would love to try this because shaving always seems to bring me out in a rash no matter what brand of razor or cream i use. so skirts and dresses are a big no no for me. would love to be able to go out in a dress for once :)

I am dark haired. Due to arthritis it is more awkward to do hair removal. Whilst also there is the discomfort of shaving, using epilator or waxing. I cannot use cream such as immac etc, as I am allergic. So I would love to do the challenge with the philips lumea precision. As it may make life easier, hair removal more successful. Thus allowing me to feel more comfortable and feminine.

  197. I dream of permanently smooth limbs, I don't like shaving as it gives a rash, creams smell & irritate my skin, waxing is painful, leaves ingrowns, expensive at a salon & embarrassing if you're very hirsute. Maybe this is the answer?

    ReplyDelete
  198. I have these unsightly black hairs on my chin - a lot of them!! and I made the mistake of starting to shave them and now you can see stubble - it is so embarrassing :(
