LBQ's Top Three: Nail Treatments

Brittle and flaking nails can become the bane of your life if left untreated and unpampered. Not only do they look unsightly, they impact on the way your varnish dries - leaving dents and bumps instead of a smooth and glossy nail. You can make a few changes to your lifestyle, as well as diet, to improve the look and feel of your nails, but there are also some fab products out there to help you on your way to lovely long and smooth nail beds. Here are my top three...

best nail treatments

1. Foltene Nail Treatment (£9.95)
One of the easiest nail products I've ever used, this treatment from Foltene helps to leave nails healthier and more resistant to breakage. The inclusion of Tricalgoxyl (found in marine life) effectively stimulates the nail's natural growth, helping to restructure dry and breaking nails. It also includes Elastin to nourish and hydrate nails, helping them maintain their natural elasticity to prevent further breaking or splitting if you forget your hand cream/do too much washing up. The clear formula comes in a handy tube which is applied to the base of the nail with a foam applicator; it's non-greasy and leaves no residue behind, making it a simple addition to your nail care routine. You can use it over varnish or at the beginning of an at-home manicure too. It really works, having left my otherwise broken and manky hands in a much more pleasant state in only a few weeks.

2. Jessica Bend Don't Break (£15.95)
Jessica claim this is a 'revolutionary nail complex' formulated to maximise strength and flexibility in the nail; one of the biggest cause of breakage is the inability of nails to bend. Containing hydrating polymers to increase the flexibility and condition of nails, this is really easy to use as you simply paint it on like varnish. For best effects this should be used alone (with no varnish on top) to reinvigorate the nail and allow a good oxygen exchange - nails need to breathe too! Although this is quite an intensive treatment, if your nails are in a sorry state then it may be worth spending a couple of weeks giving them the pampering they deserve.

3. Nailtiques Cuticle Care Oil (£11.65)
Often forgotten, cuticles are the life of your nail bed: it's wear the growth happens. It's essential to massage them and ensure they're properly hudrated, in order for the nail to grow effectively. Nailtiques Cuticle Care Oil helps to instantly soften cuticles, seal in moisure and keep hands looking healthy. The light oil contains a nourishing blend of sunflower, safflower, avocado and hemp seed oil, meaning it's super hydrating and great for overall nail health. It's packaged in a handy rollerball applicator, minimising mess and enabling you to pop this in your bag for use on the go. I noticed a difference within days and always grab this when my cuticles are looking a little worse for wear.

  1. At the moment I am using almond oil rubbed in on my cuticles, that seems to be helping no end! I got shouted at by a friend who does my nails for me lol

I do like the look of the Foltene one though *pops it on list of doom*
