Spitalfields Market: Pop-Up Vintage

Ever since I was little I've made a habit of collecting little nick-naks, sentimental bits and bobs, vintage finds and collectables. There's nothing quite like finding something unique and special that nobody else has, or a little token that makes you smile. Although there aren't many vintage stores and antique shops still left, Spitalfields Market in East London is definitely the home of the vintage trinket. They invited me down last weekend to their monthly 'Pop-Up Vintage' event, which takes place on the third Saturday of every month, to explore what the amazing stalls had to offer. Suffice to say I bought a lot of stuff and spent a lot of time wandering around finding hidden gems. Unlike a lot of 'vintage' markets in London (which actually just have vintage inspired clothing or mass produced jewellery,) this really is the good stuff. Rows upon rows of teacups, glass holders, magazines, glasses, trinkets and clothes, topped off with an array of homemade goodies.

If you love kitsch trinkets then you'll be in your element here, as designers and creative types rock up with their homemade badges, jewellery and candles too. Some of my favourite pieces included antique glass that had been made into beautifully scented candles - Key To The Attic source some amazing glass pieces and fill them with wax, making them a feature of your home as well as an investment. They smell divine and look incredible too. We also found the best cupcakes I've ever seen (Mojito and Apple Crumble cupcakes? Hello!) and even some original Royal playing cards after the Queen's coronation. What was incredibly refreshng was the fact that the prices were pretty reasonable - so many traders inflate prices to the ridiculous degree when in the presence of vintage lovers, but everything here (apart from a few fur coats) was very affordable. I literally could have spent the whole day here and can't wait to go back next month for another shop around.

Pop-Up Vintage is at Spitalfields on the third Saturday of every month (but there's also a special one this Bank Holiday.) Find out more on their website here.

  1. The glass trinkets are adorable, I haven't been to spitalfields in so long! I would love to use them to put sweets in!
