Lipstick Queen: Hello Sailor

Nude lipsticks have never really been my thing. A bright pop of colour is my go-to when hunting for the perfect lippie, but when I discovered a new launch from Lipstick Queen I thought it would be the perfect solution to my ‘interesting nude’ conundrum. Founded by Poppy King, who decided to create her own line of lipsticks after failing to find the perfect shade she was looking for, Lipstick Queen make a range of highly pigmented and high quality lip products. Hello Sailor is one of those shades that looks a bit scary at first glance: A bright navy blue in the tube, it certainly doesn’t look like it will deliver nearly-nude lips, but the secret lies in both the pigment and the formula.

The navy bullet actually delivers a sheer wash of purple to lips, adapting subtly to each person to provide an individual cool-toned, berry lip. As an added bonus, the blue also offers a whitening effect to teeth - an age old makeup artist trick to brighten gnashers. Not only is the formula really soft, creamy and easy to apply, but the colour itself acts as a lip stain after the initial hydration has worn off, meaning that it lasts for at least a few hours. Hello Sailor is perfect used on its own for a sheer wash of colour, but it can also be applied over other lipsticks for a subtle berry sheen. It’s been a complete hit since its recent launch and at the moment Space NK are struggling to fill demand! If you can track one down (try online at Space NK), Hello Sailor will set you back £20. A price more than justified thanks to the fantastic formula, plus the novelty value of raised eyebrows as you apply blue lipstick on the train. Would you dare to try this berry blue lipstick?

Available from Space NK stores and online priced £20.00.

  2. Great post! I am in two minds about Hello Sailor....I have swatched twice in Space NK and once I loved it and the second time I wasn't so sure. I think I am going to have to swatch a third time to make up my mind! It does look lovely in the pic above x

    1. Hopefully it will be third time lucky :) It's a lovely colour, very subtle, but still 'there' if you know what i mean!

  3. This is so intriguing, reminds me of the BarryM ones that are green but adapt to your lips to give a good pinky shade. Would love to see this on the lips.
Love the name and packaging though, so cute!

    1. I have the Barry M one too and would say Hello Sailor is like the much subtler version, with a more creamy texture.
