Remington Stylist Easy Curl

It's well and truly awards season. The pages of our glossy magazines may now filled with hairstyles from the red carpets of Hollywood, but how do you bring a little of that stardust into your own bedroom? Remington have launched a range of  styling tools that make creating styles Hollywood starlets would be jealous of as easy as pie. I've been trying out the Stylist Easy Curl wand to create effortless curls and pin-up status - or at least a hair pinned-up status. The wand is really light to hold and has a simple on/off switch to get it to the right temperature (170 degrees) in around a minute. The downside is that it doesn't have temperature control, but it does achieve a high heat that's more than acceptable to create relaxed wave. A unique 'spiral guide' is fixed to the outside of the wand, both protecting your fingers from getting burnt (I can't tell you how many scars I've got on my hands and wrists from knocking myself with a styling wand,) and acting as a guide to hair placed on the tool. You simply grab hair in sections and wind it around the outside of the styler; hair will fall into the gaps to ensure it's placed around the wand in a way that distributes heat to the entire length. The 'spiral guide' means the wand doesn't get too hot to handle, as the heat is a few centimeters away from your fingers, so you can keep it in place for as long as you need. Although the website and product guide recommends holding each section for 10 seconds, I would suggest upping this to around 30 seconds to ensure your curl forms properly and is held into place. It's not an easy task to get used to this device and you will need to practice a few times, but if you have the patience and passion to create fabulous styles it's well worth it. I've got a lot of different styling wands that are a lot more expensive than this, but it's making me question their value - you can grab this for only £29.99, making it a fraction of the cost of a Cloud Nine wand. If you're after simplicity and a tool that will only be used a few times a month, then this is definitely a great buy that can be thoroughly justified. The curls aren't anywhere near as intense or tight as I've created with Cloud Nine, but for a relaxed wave this provides as much heat as you need for a messy pinned-up look.

This was a look created with the wand - a very relaxed, brushed-out do that was created in under 15mins. All you have to do is curl the hair in sections, rolling the hair and wand backwards away from the face. Once you've curled all sections and brushed hair through with fingers, spray hairspray over the whole lot and tip your head upside down to generate volume. Take sections of hair around the neckline and delicately pin upwards by folding the hair in half; this should be really rough and messy, while creating a vintage inspired look. The key is not to pile hair on top of the head, but to keep the volume at the base. A delicate sweeping fringe or a side-pin can also work wonders at creating something simple, yet effective.

You can grab the Remington Stylist Easy Curl from Very.co.uk for £30.00 or at the moment it's available in Debenhams for only £20.00.
