If I had to only use one electrical appliance for the rest of my life I'd happily sack off everything... I could do without my ipod (just) my phone (if I tried hard) my epilator (hello razor) and even my hairdryer (au naturel is the way forward.) However, if you ever made me go without my hair straighteners I think I'd cry. I just about manage to go sans straighteners while at a festival by clipping my hair back into numerous braids and hairspraying with great intent. As I have a barnet that's unruly, frizzy and generally not very kind to me, hair straightening is a daily chore I have to endure. I'd rather spend some cash investing in a decent pair of straighteners that help me leave the house in the morning with a swishy, shiny 'do than anything else. I was sent these Nicky Clarke straighteners from his new 'Mayfair' collection to try and they're a little bit bling - gold and snakeskin all in a tidy little package!
The straighteners are lightweight and feature streamlined, relatively thin, tourmaline coated plates to ensure ease of use and ironing hair without snags. They also feature a 'salon length' cord so you can walk around your room without being forced backwards in a comedy cartoon fashion. With a top temperature of 230 degrees these are also salon quality and can easily compete with any GHDs. The result you get from these is as good, if not better, than any straighteners I've used before - sleek, styled and shiny hair in minimal strokes of the plate. The thiness of the two plates also aids styling, meaning you can really get each piece of hair the way you want in a swipe of a straightener. There are five different heat settings accessible using a turning nob, but the only negative thing is that you don't actually know what temperature each of them are. I've been going for setting 3 or 4 as you don't need to use the straightener at its full temperature all the time (you'll just burn your hair shaft) and this is more than adequate on my rough and frizzy barnet.
These are great value and look super stylish at the same time. A little bit of gold and snakeskin goes a long way in making these stand out amongst a crowd of plain black tools. For the price point I think they're pretty ace; I can't think of another pair of straighteners around the £44.99 mark that have performed as well while looking stylish. The even better news is that I have an extra pair to give away to one of you lucky lot to try too! If you'd like to be in with a chance of winning just leave your name and a contact email/Twitter handle below and I'll pick someone at random to receive their very own pair of Nicky Clarke Mayfair Allure hair straighteners. Good luck!
