Budget beauty: Primark bargains

No matter how expensive my taste and how luxurious my handbag collection, I can't resist a rummage in Primark. The buzz I get from picking up a necklace that causes a fuss at work for under a fiver, the bargainous basics that are half the price of Topshop and the high street copies you just can't resist make it totally worthwhile. There's one section though that definitely needs some attention but often gets overlooked - the beauty aisle. Upon first look you may think that the cosmetics and accessories were cheap, nasty and bad imitations, but for the couple of quid you hand over they're really quite good! I picked up these bronzing rocks and highlighting pearls for £1.50 each and the quality is fab; soft, smooth and giving a great subtle shimmer. They may not give a really deep colour result, but the swish of a brush gives a really delicate touch of radiance to otherwise dull skin... A steal considering high street alternatives don't come cheaper than about £7.99.

The lashes in Primark come in at a measly one pound (that's practically the price of a Mars bar nowadays) and can compete with some of the best lashes out there. Although the ends need a bit of a chop so that they fit the lash line perfectly, the quality of the lash is great - they give subtle volume and length without looking too fake or plastic. A great alternative to forking out £5 every Saturday night, these can also been worn for than once if you're careful... Although the glue is rubbish so you definitely need to invest in some good stuff! I totally stock up on these so I can have a guilt-free flutter.

The best bit about the cashiers taking forever to bag up your bargains is the random stuff you find around the till. These Coca-Cola lip smackers really do smell like Coke - for £2.50 you get a lipbalm and gloss that are diddy enough to chuck in your bag while keeping your pout glossy. They don't feel cheap either, with some cosmetics under the £5 mark feeling awful when applied - this is exactly what you need to add a bit of moisture and gloss. At £1.25 each you can't really argue. The next time you're in Primarni make sure you check out the cosmetics... You may find some surprises next to the knicker display.

Have you picked up some bargains in Primark recently?

  3. I've been waiting for someone to finally review the Primark selection of cosmetics so thank you for this post!

I always thought it all looked a bit cheap and nasty - like you've said - and I never plucked up the courage to try them and review them for myself. I might just take a closer look next time!

  6. The shimmery pearls look wonderful, I might buy them and get a separate pot to mix them together. Because I'm adventurous like that.
