Breaking up is hard to do

Believe it or not, 93% of women will suffer from split ends at some point in their lives. How it's not 100% I don't know, but suffice to say it's a big problem for all of us. Excessive styling, use of heated appliances, as well as the general wear and tear we put our hair through on a daily basis, means we sometimes get in a bit of a pickle. Most of us have taken a trip to the hairdresser only to be told they need to hack off four inches because of your split ends, totally ruining that flowing barnet you were after. Tresemme claim to have solved this problem with the launch of their Split Remedy range, which helps to repair split ends by 80% in only three washes.

The whole process is too technical and scientific for me to understand or explain, but the general gist is that the products contain a patented formula which magnetises the hair back together using the forces of the hair particles. (I can't remember as far back as GCSE Chemistry.) It doesn't repair the actual hair shaft, because we all know hair is dead, but it does temporarily glue the separated parts back together to give the appearance of healthy hair. They claim that a difference can be seen in only one wash, but the benefit can be maintained by continually using the range; however, as soon as you stop using it your hair will lose the magnetic hold and go back to being ugly!

Within the Split Remedy range is a shampoo, conditioner, leave in treatment and serum, all of which contain the exclusive and secret formula. You don't have to use all of the products at once to see results, but the more you use inevitably the better the result you'll see. I've used all of the products within the range, but as I don't have many split ends it's hard to tell if there's really much of a difference. The shampoo and conditioner aren't my cup of tea as I need targeted products to take care of my frizz and dryness (clearly more important for me than split ends!) but the leave in conditioner and serum are both light and pleasant to use. The proof of this is really in the pudding, but it's an interesting concept that the brand are ridiculously excited about. Would you be up for declaring war on your split ends?

Available from mid October in all good stockists.

  3. They've done loads of scientific research, patented the formula and have examples of how it's benefitted the hair. Personally I don't know how good it is as my hair isn't that bad and I have it cut regularly. It's an interesting concept though!
