I have massive problem nails. Many moons ago when it was really cool (was it ever cool?) to have your nails ripped to shreds and covered in acrylic, I succumbed and spent three years at University sporting the chav look. To my detriment I must add. My nails have never fully recovered and are brittle, weak, flaky and generally don't grow that long - especially in Winter. I'm always on the look out for something new and innovative to try in the hope that it will be the holy grail of nail products. I love the cute Mavala nail enamels, so when I was sent their Mava-Flex nail serum to try I had high hopes... unfortunately those hopes were dashed.
"This well-balanced concentrate by Mavala restores and maintains the flexibility of very dry, hard nails. The result is healthy, flexible, shiny and soft nails that do not break. Mavala Mava-Flex Serum For Nails is formulated with urea and saccharides to target the optimum moisture balance for a better, more flexible nail; calcium to fortify and strengthen; and lemon essential oil and vitamin B5 to help reinforce nail structure."
This is an unusual formula as it's basically a really runny serum - almost water like - that you apply to bare nails and leave to soak in. They say to use this twice a week before bed so you can leave the 'Flex' to do its job while you sleep. I've been using this for maybe six weeks, approximately four times a week, as part of my usual manicure routine. Not every time was it left on overnight, but it was left for a few hours before painting commenced.
To be honest to start with I didn't feel like it was doing anything, but I kept with it... eventually I started using another strengthener over the top because I didn't feel like my nails were protected. No matter how much I tried it just didn't seem to do what it promised - my nails were still brittle, broke easily, flaked and split - but I kept with it. After six weeks of trying I can honestly say my nails are in no better condition than when I started. They may be a bit more flexible, yes, but if they look awful then that doesn't really do it for me. You can see from the picture that my nails are still pretty mank! I was really disappointed with this as the claims are so great, plus it's not cheap at £14.50 for a teeny bottle. One on my 'sad face' list.
If you've got a solution for me then pleeeeeeease let me know.
