The first thing that I noticed was that the packaging wasn't bog-standard, but was in fact a little bit different from your run-of-the-mill product. The lipstick is oval, rather than round, the lipgloss is as mini and mini can be, and the eyeshadow even comes with its own little mirror hidden away under the product. The black theme is a refreshing change from the bright pinks, greens, yellows and blues which seem to adorn the makeup shelves of Boots at the moment and certainly make the range seem more expensive than it is - in fact it's pretty cheap at £4.00 for the mini gloss, £6.00 for the lipstick and £8.00 for the eyeshadow.
The products themselves didn't wow me, but they were pleasant enough to use. The lipstick was really moisturising and a lot smoother to apply than a lot of others I've tried - it almost felt like the stick was a balm formula. The colour pay-off is good as you basically get what colour you expect. The gloss is really cute an smells very spearminty, again giving a good colour pay-off on your lips. The shadow I was sent is a black with hints of glitter - the black itself needs a lot of building up to get a strong colour, but the glitter transfers well and really catches the light. What I like most though is the cute pack it comes in with the secret compartment... I've never seen this done on an eyeshadow before (it has been done endlessly on foundations and powders,) but I do feel you pay more because of this.
I do think this brand is quite cute and I was impressed with the quality of the products for their price. It is annoying that you can't just roll up to Boots and check it out at the moment, but it's definitely worth a look online. I wasn't wowed, but I was intrigued... I haven't made my mind up yet if I'm addicted to Addicted Cosmetics.
